What I would give to be 30 back then as opposed to now to enjoy this music when it was much bigger than it is today!

that so chill. i got to hang out with them after a concert too. but that was only cuz i was at the gordon goodwin camp. haha. for a week you get hang with the band. so fun!
dethrising (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
yes, that is true. so i guess it works both ways. what they play gives them their kind of sound and style. like charlie parker. no one sounded quite like him.

of course it matters what a person plays. what they play gives their solo structure and playing off of certain scales gives a whole new dimension to the solo. that is what makes it sound "great" as you would say.
dethrising (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
doesnt matter what anyone plays, as long as it sounds great! marienthal is also cannonball influenced.

O yes, you are right. I must've started paying attention more to the comments than the music when I was browsing jazz videos. People need to not freak out every time they hear Marienthal use anything in a solo that sounds pentatonic. They'll say the same thing on videos where he obviously uses a harmonic minor scales.

Yeah, he is playing really great, but he is using much more than just blues pentatonic for what he does here.
lizard218 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Marienthal's solos using blues pentatonics are better than what many can do with intricate scale changes. Stop trying to be so critical and just sit back, relax and enjoy the amazing music.
