yeah thats true but once you reached the rank of Colonel in the SS, the SS symbol on the left was replaced by a leaf-shaped symbol. That same leaf is also placed on the right side where the rank is usually indicated.

It's opposite. You wore the rank on the left side and your divisional insignia on the right. The Totenkopf was in fact used. The Totenkopf was an SS symbol, but I'm sure you are reffering to the SS runes? The Schutxstaffel runes were also worn, all depending on diverse reasons.

Yes, on the left side of the collar every SS soldier did wear SS symbol. On the right side of the collar they did wear a symbol of your rank.
